For the purpose of registration of marriage to a foreigner in Ukraine it’s required to formalize all documents properly. A foreigner willing to enter into marriage in any city or town of Ukraine is obliged to provide the following documents for a registering civil registry office: the original international passport with the latest stamp made by Ukrainian customs authorities + notarization and translation into Ukrainian, the original certificate of birth accordingly apostilled or legalized + notarization and translation into Ukrainian, certificate of registration and certificate of marital status accordingly apostilled or legalized + notarization and translation into Ukrainian, and if a previous husband/wife of this foreigner has deceased or divorced, then he/she should provide the original certificate of death or certificate of divorce or court judgment accordingly apostilled or legalized + notarization and translation into Ukrainian. Earlier a Ukrainian police clearance certificate for a non-resident spouse-to-be was required for marriage in Ukraine.
Initially, spouses to be should submit their application to any civil registry office in Ukraine for registration of their marriage and upon one month’s period they enter into marriage. Please mind about visa requirements for non-residents of Ukraine. Thus, citizens of EU, USA, Canada, Australia, Japan, Russia, Georgia, Kazakhstan, etc. have visa free entrance for 90 days. For other nationals it’s obligatory to have a valid Ukrainian visa.
As well it’s very important to prepare properly all Ukrainian documents for their further registration and use in any country worldwide. All official documents, to be used other than in Ukraine, should be apostilled or legalized and, depending on a country of destination, sometimes it’s required to have procedure of consular legalization for them.
